“I shall be miserable if I have not an excellent library”

I declare after all there is no enjoyment like reading! How much sooner one tires of any thing than of a book! — When I have a house of my own, I shall be miserable if I have not an excellent library.

From Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen

We visited this great house recently. It was used in the filming of Pride and Prejudice a few years ago. Whilst wandering the grounds and house interior it was impossible not to consider how the occupants would have passed their time with no Tv or radio never mind the internet!

This year I have recaptured an enjoyment of books and plan to spend many hours in their company over the coming months.

Death is a debt …

Death is a debt to nature due, I’ve paid my debt and so must you.

I found this inscription on a grave stone in this cemetery in Salem, Massachusetts a couple of years ago.

For some reason it came to mind today so I decided to make this the subject of my photo.
